Roberto Cruz
I’m studying Multidisciplinary Engineering Technology at Texas A&M University, following the Mechatronics track with a minor in Embedded System Integration. I expect to complete my B.S. in May 2028. I’m interested in electrical engineering, controls, and power electronics, and I enjoy projects that bring circuits, code, and mechanical design together.
My work ranges from analog alarms and FPGA logic to robot mechanisms and an engineering sandbox game. I like figuring out why something doesn’t work: tracing a circuit with an oscilloscope, checking motion in CAD, or building a simulation before assembling hardware.
I’m a first-generation college student and a recipient of Texas A&M’s Regents’ Scholarship.
Selected projects
- Autonomous Warehouse Robot — Chassis design, lift-and-claw integration, and control development for a compact robot designed to move and sort warehouse payloads.
- Dexterous Robotic Hand — Fusion 360 assemblies and 3D-printed joints for an 11-servo, tendon-actuated hand within an eight-week, $100 project constraint.
- Analog Intrusion Alarm — Simulation, breadboard debugging, and soldering for a working infrared beam-break alarm.
What I’m working on
I independently develop a fork of OverEngineered, an open-source Roblox engineering sandbox with over 40,000 total visits. My work spans 3D models, TypeScript code, interfaces, and save-system integration. I’m also exploring OverEngineered Toys, physical building pieces inspired by the game. This work-in-progress project focuses on modular parts for creative building.
Outside project work, I mentor 16 first-year engineering students through CLEN 181. I also work seasonally as a self-employed landscape irrigator. Cars and motorsport are long-standing interests.
